1
Measure two cups of flour and one cup of salt into a bowl and mix. Add about one cup of water gradually, stirring the whole time. When the dough is pliable and not sticky, you have added enough water.
-
2
Turn the dough out onto a floured board. Knead for about ten minutes, until the dough is smooth and glossy. The more that you knead the dough, the smoother and easier to work your dough will be.

3
Cut the batch of dough in half. Decide how you want your bread to look. Croissants can be made by rolling some of the dough into a circle, cutting the circle into six parts like a pie, then rolling each part beginning at the wide end and ending at the point. Baguettes and braids can be made by rolling the dough by hand into snake shapes. Loaves can be shaped by hand. For dinner rolls, roll dough into balls and score the top with the butter knife.

4
Lay parchment paper on the baking sheet. Place all of the dough pieces on the parchment. Place in a 200 degree oven for three to four hours, until the pieces are completely dry and hard.
-
5
Paint each bread piece with varnish if they are to be kept for any length of time. The varnish will help preserve the bread props and prevent insect infestation.

Tips & Warnings
This is a fun project for small children to make "doll food". The dough is completely safe if small children decide to taste it.
Do not try to speed up the drying process by raising the temperature of the oven. This will increase the possibility of your dough pieces cracking and breaking.
