How to Make Tender Meatballs

Before buying frozen meatballs, consider making your own with ingredients found in your kitchen. Homemade tender meatballs are a great addition to many pasta dishes such as spaghetti. The key to make tender meatballs is not handling the meat with your hands a lot to prevent the ground beef from being too tough.   • 1 lb. ground sirloin
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp. grate Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp. chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp. chopped basil
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups water

      Place the onions in a pan and sauté them. Once the onions are caramelized, you can add them to the meatball mixture.

      Mix the large egg, cheese, parsley, oregano, basil, onion, breadcrumbs and garlic in a bowl. Once you mix these ingredients, season with salt and pepper.

      Combine the meat with the mixed ingredients. Add 1 cup of water.

      Ensure that your hands are clean. Knead the water into the meatball mixture with your hands.

      Use a melon scooper to make meatballs that are 1 to 1 ½ inch in size. The melon scoop allows the meatballs to all be the same size for even cooking. Place these meatballs in a shallow pot on the stove top.

      Add ½ cup of water over the meatballs. Cover them with a lid.

      Cook the meatballs for 35 minutes over medium heat. Test the temperature of the meatballs. They need to have an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
