How to Wire Money Bank to Bank
Wiring money directly from one bank to another is a safe, secure, and convenient way to transfer large sums of money. The transaction is initiated with the bank where you have your account, and the wire transfer is facilitated by your bank so that the money arrives safely at the receiving financial institution. Knowing how to complete a bank to bank wire can allow you to make large payments easily or transfer money between your own accounts.

1
Gather information about the originating account. You will need your account number and the routing number.
-
2
Gather information about the receiving account. This should include the name and address of the account holder, and, if wiring within the United States, the account number and routing number for the receiving account. If you are wiring money out of the country, you will need the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and the Bank Identifier Code (BIC) from the bank that will receive the funds. European Banking Resources recommends contacting the receiving bank directly to obtain the IBAN, as they are the only direct source for this information.

-
3
Ensure that your account has a balance at least equal to the amount you intend to send plus any wire fee that will be charged by your bank. Information about the wire fee can be obtained from your bank account disclosures or by contacting your bank directly.
-
4
Contact your bank to initiate the wire. This can be done either over the phone or in person.
-
5
Provide the person helping you with your account information so that they can begin the wire process, then tell him how much you wish to transfer. Finally, he will need the information about the account you wish to wire funds to.
-
6
Ask the bank employee when the money will arrive in the receiving account. Contact the receiver--or your other bank, in the case that you conducted the wire between your own accounts--to confirm receipt of the money after the stated time has passed.
