How to Mix Cereal in a Baby Bottle

When a baby is first introduced to solid food it is usually done through a bottle as a supplement to their normal serving of formula or breast-milk. This helps the baby transition to solid foods without choking or being unable to swallow the new substance in their diet. Mixing cereal in a baby's bottle is easy to do, it just requires careful attention to what you add and how you do it.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a clean, sterilized bottle out and remove the nipple.

    • 2

Fill the bottle halfway up of what you normally would. Use formula or breast-milk, whatever you typically would for a feeding.

    • 3

Spoon some rice cereal into the bottle. When doing this for the first time only add a little and as baby gets used to it and keeps it down in his tummy you can add a bit more.

    • 4

Add more formula or breast-milk to bring the bottle up to its normal level. Put the nipple back on.

    • 5

If using formula shake the bottle to dissolve the cereal. If using breast-milk swirl the bottle to dissolve the cereal. You only need to shake or swirl for five to ten seconds. All of the cereal won't dissolve but most should.
