How to Change the Date and Time on a Mac

The Macintosh internal clock supplies the date and time of file creation and modification. Sometimes the setting gets off, or you have to replace the battery. Here is how to set your date and time again.

Things You'll Need:

• Mac OS 9.0

1. Click on the Apple menu and select Control Panels, then choose Date & Time.

2. Highlight the month, day or year you want to set, then change it, either with the up and down arrows or by typing in the correct numbers.

3. Highlight the hour, minute or second you want to set, then change it, either with the up and down arrows or by typing in the correct numbers.

4. Click on the Set Time Zone button to select your time zone by choosing the nearest major city from the alphabetical list provided.

5. Click on Set Time Now and you can set your time automatically from the Internet by clicking on the Server Options button and choosing a server. Your Mac will connect automatically.

6. Place the digital clock on your Finder menu bar by clicking on that option.

Tips & Warnings

• There are a number of date and time formats from which to choose, depending on your country - or you can create a custom format, depending on your personal preference.
• You can find out what time it is now in another city by clicking on that city name from the list under Set Time Zone.
• You can select an alternate time server, or add or delete as many as you like, by clicking on the Server Options button and choosing Edit List (the last entry in the Network Time list). The server options include time.apple.com, time.asia.apple.com and time.euro.apple.com.
• There are numerous clock options, including chimes, font and point size, display of date, blinking seconds, and others.
