How to Determine a Face Size for a Hairdo
Many people dread haircuts. The wrong haircut for your face size and shape can highlight things that you dislike and make your face and body look disproportionate. The right haircut, however, will highlight your good features and give your face proportion and balance. Always give your hairdresser advice. Many people believe that hairdressers don't want to be told what to do, but the opposite is true. Hairdressers like having a template to work with, especially if you're a new customer. How do you know what to tell the hairdresser? All you need to do is look in the mirror. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Look in the mirror and study the outlines of your face. A square face will have a wide jaw and cheekbones and a broad hairline. A heart-shaped face has a broad hairline and a narrow chin, while a pear-shaped face has a narrow forehead and broad chin. Round faces are widest at the cheeks, and oval faces are longer with a narrow hairline and chin.

2
Pick a cut that evens out your facial proportions. Choose soft, flirty haircuts to soften a square face. Pick a cut that frames the chin for a heart-shaped face and frames the forehead for a pear-shaped one. For round faces, choose long styles that have volume on the top. Oval faces look best with upswept cuts and cuts with curls around the face.

Examine the size of your face. Look at both the bone structure and the flesh. If there is very little space between your features, your face is small. If there's an abundance of space, your face is large. Hold your hand up to your face, with your nose in the middle of your palm. If your chin touches the heel of your hand, your face is small. If your chin is far below your hand, your face is large.

Choose smooth, angular cuts for small faces. Don't get bangs; your hair should be a frame for your face, not hide it. Large faces look better with side-swept bangs and volume. Your hair should hang longer than your chin. This will help disguise any extra space.
