How to Make a Bottle Holder Using an O Ring
Active kids need water to stay hydrated and feel their best, but keeping track of a water bottle can be problematic when you're out and about. Help your kids drink their eight glasses a day and keep track of their bottles with a homemade water bottle holder. You can complete this craft in an afternoon. Choose grosgrain ribbon that is 2 to 4 inches wide for this project.
Things You'll Need
- Water bottle
- Grosgrain ribbon
- Clear nail polish
- Needle and thread or fabric glue
- Rubber O-ring
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut the ribbon to a length of 4 feet, or long enough to fit over the shoulder or across the body of the child who will use the bottle holder.
-
2
Paint clear nail polish on the cut edges to avoid fraying, and let dry.
-
-
3
Wrap one cut end through the O-ring and back over itself, overlapping 2 inches. Sew in place using a needle in thread, or if doing this craft with very young children use a new-sew fabric glue or bond.
-
4
Loop the ribbon around so you can wrap the other end through the O-ring as you did in Step 3. Fasten with needle and thread or fabric glue a second time. Now your ribbon should be one long circle attached to the O-ring on both ends.
-
5
Slide the O-ring over the top of your bottle neck, fill with water and screw on the lid.

Tips & Warnings
Choose an O-ring that is the same circumference as the neck of the bottle, below the lid. It should stay on securely, so it may need to stretch it slightly to fit over the lid portion of the bottle.
Make the strap shorter if you want to use it to hang to a bag or stroller; put a button closure on one end and attach the O-ring on one side only for this feature.
Use this same process to make a holder for a baby bottle.
