How to Draw Graffiti in Ink
Graffiti is a style of art that has been popular in urban cultures for decades. The Internet has played a big role in bringing this art form to the world of legitimate art. Today, graffiti has a place beside other art disciplines. Graffiti is no longer simply spray paint on a wall in the inner cities. Graffiti has found its place in paintings, animation and even pencil and pen sketches. Graffiti ink drawings are easy to do and an excellent way for beginning graffiti artists to break into the world of graffiti art.

1
Decide on the style you want to use. There are rounded and block style letters in graffiti art. There are other styles as well, including throw-up, tag style and wild style. Rounded or block style is the easiest way for a beginner to get started.

2
Sketch an outline of your graffiti letters in pencil. The India ink will cover the markings once you apply it. Write the entire word or phrase you want to do in graffiti. Don't worry about doing the 3D dimension or any other details right now. This stage is about composition. Find the outline and layout of your letters. If you're doing a rounded style, keep your pencil strokes wide and smooth. If you're going with a block style, use sharp, hard lines to place your letters.

Go over your pencil lines with India ink. Take your time and be sure to keep the ink tip on the pencil lines so they don't show through in the finished art work. Continue to go over the lines, working out from the original outline to help add thickness and dimension to the edges of your lettering. Do this in steps, adding one extra layer of thickness at a time.

Add texture to the face of your lettering by applying ink diagonally to letter facing. Apply these pen strokes lightly, letting the paper show through. You don't want the letter facing to be a solid color. Your marks should be intermittent and almost scribbled on, just to give texture to the letters.
