How to Make Tire Dressing

Tire dressing is a type of detailing that adds life to a vehicle and makes the tire look shiny and new. Tire dressing is often used before displaying a vehicle in a show or parade. While some claim that tire dressing can damage tires, this actually depends on the formula. With a simple homemade solution, there should be no damage. An added benefit of tire dressing is that it will reduce the attraction of dust to the tires.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with warm water and dishsoap and scrub the tires with a scrub brush. Dry the tires thoroughly. Rub a layer of alcohol on with a clean clothe and dry.

    • 2

Use cater oil to dress the tires. Take a cloth and dampen it with the caster oil and rub. Repeat this step two or three times. Make sure to wear gloves when rubbing the caster oil on the tires, and be certain not to get the oil on the threads of the tire. The caster oil will give the rubber a revitalized look that is shiny and new.

    • 3

Use the caster oil every few months or as needed to dress your tires. The caster oil dressing will help to prolong the life of the tire by preventing rubber deterioration and brake dust build up.

Tips & Warnings

  • If purchasing a tire dressing formula, stay with a water-based one. The water-based formula should include UV filters and lack silicone oils. The water-base formulas also have a satin finish.

  • Wear old clothing as cleaning the tires is unclean.
