How to Program a Keyless Entry for a Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a small SUV built from the Civic chassis. Most CR-V models come standard with keyless entry. You can program additional remotes to your CR-V, or reprogram a single remote. Unfortunately, CR-V model years after 2004 must be programmed by a dealer. However, you can program the remote in your 1997 to 2004 CR-V.

Instructions

1. Turn your ignition to the "On" position, and then press "Unlock" on your keyless entry. Quickly turn the ignition to the "Lock" position.

2. Repeat the exact process in Step 1 twice more (a total of three times) to begin the Honda programming sequence.

3. Turn the ignition to the "On" position. Press the "Unlock" button on your remote. Listen closely for the doors to lock and then unlock.

4. Press the "Unlock" button on the remote you are programming. If you are programming more than one remote, press the "Unlock" button on each, one after the other. Turn the ignition to "Lock" to finish.

Tips & Warnings

• If you already have a programmed keyless remote, and are adding a second, you will need to reprogram the first at the same time. Once you enter the programming sequence, the computer clears previously programmed remote data. You can program a total of four remotes, as long as you program them at the same time.

• If following the above sequence does not work, you may need to replace your keyless entry battery.
