Use coal tar. Coal tar is a byproduct of petroleum products and coal. It is known as the oldest treatment for psoriasis. Coal tar helps reduce inflammation, itching and scaling with few side effects. Coal tar is messy and has a strong odor, but it can be purchased over the counter and is available in creams, shampoos and oils.
