How to Make a Sweet Pea Diaper Cake
Diaper cakes make great baby-shower gifts or centerpieces. Not only are they fun to look at, but they also contain a large variety of useful "ingredients" that will come in very handy when the baby is born. "Sweet pea" diaper cakes are a popular theme for baby showers because they are both cute and easy to create. Sweet pea-themed diaper cakes use a soft green color, which is also versatile for both boy and girl baby showers. Diaper Cake
-
1
Unfold each diaper and roll it up completely. Wrap a rubber band around each end of the diaper to keep it together.
-
2
Use the hot-glue gun to glue the end of the paper-towel roll to the cake base. Allow the glue to cool. Stuff one diaper into the top of the paper towel roll to make it a little longer.

3
Line the diapers around the center paper-towel roll by standing them on their ends. After you have circled the paper-towel roll, start another circle and line the diapers around the inner circle. You will need three rings of diapers for the bottom layer. Once the diapers are in place, secure them with the curling ribbon.
-
4
Begin the middle layer of the sweet pea diaper cake. This layer will need two rings of diapers. Once you have formed the second layer, wrap curling ribbon around the diapers again and move on to the top layer. The top layer will be the smallest layer, with only one circle of diapers around the paper-towel roll.

5
Wrap the colored ribbon around each tier. Use ribbon with green polka dots to look like little peas or ribbon with pictures of a "pea in the pod." If you can't find any ribbon you like, buy green or white ribbon and use fabric paint to write "Sweet Pea" on each layer.
-
6
Place a pea pod stuffed animal, candle, or other novelty on top. You can find this at LullabyeBaby.com or ElisasCakes.com, or you can make your own "sweet pea in a pod" from fondant.
Fondant Sweet Pea Pod
-
7
Roll the medium-green-colored fondant into an oval, making the ends slightly tapered, like the ends of a pea pod. Use your fingertips to make slight indents like those you would find on a real pea pod.
-
8
Use a sharp knife to slice down the middle of the pea pod lengthwise, cutting about half to three-quarters of the way through the fondant. Use your fingers to gently pull the cut open and then pinch the edges of the opening to make them thinner and slightly ruffled.
-
9
Form small balls out of the green fondant and gently place them inside the pea pod. You can just make one ball or make three "peas" to take up the whole length of the pea pod. Place the fondant pea pod on top of the diaper cake.
