Cooking with protein powders can be a great way to get the amount of protein you need in your diet. Traditionally, protein powders only went into shakes, smoothies or the powder was mixed into water or milk. Although that's still very common, cooking with the powder has taken a rise. Protein powders are mainly intended for gaining weight to build muscle. Does this Spark an idea?

      Combine whey protein with gluten or oat flour. Using whey powder alone will provide a drier and less tasty end-product. Pick a recipe and divide the amount of flour called for in half. Use protein powder for the other half.

      Roll pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough on a baking sheet and sprinkle a scoop of whey protein on top of the cookies, as if you were putting sprinkles on top. Bake the cookies as you normally would.

      Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. While you wait, mix a cup of Greek yogurt, six egg whites, 1 1/2 cups of vanilla protein whey powder, 2 tsp. of baking powder, a dash of salt, 1/2 cup of butter (optional), 2 tsp. of vanilla extract and 1/4 cup of water. Pour the mix into a round cake pan, and bake for 30 to 45 minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid using soy or a soy and whey combination protein powder when baking. These are better suited for breading or making pancakes.
