How to Make Homemade Black Salve to Bring Boils to a Head

Save

Boils are painful infections under the skin, caused by a number of different culprits. An ingrown hair, clogged oil gland, or even a splinter or some type of foreign material can cause an infection to develop, resulting in a boil. Boils can be treated at home by using black salve. In order to ensure that the black salve is pure and does not contain any harmful additives, follow a simple recipe for homemade black salve to relieve the boil by bringing it to a head.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 spoons
  • Large non-stick cooking pot
  • 4 tbsp. beeswax
  • 6 tbsp. cocoa butter
  • 6 tbsp. shea butter
  • 1 tbsp. powdered vitamin E
  • 2 tbsp. honey powder
  • 4 tbsp. activated charcoal powder
  • 6 tbsp. kaolin clay
  • 4 tbsp jojoba oil
  • 2 oz. of ground up bloodroot
  • Tea tree oil
  • Clear glass jars with lids

Pour the beeswax, cocoa butter, and shea butter in a clean pot. Heat this mixture to 180 degrees. Let the mixture sit at this temperature for 20 minutes. The easiest way to do this is to use a medium to high setting, melt the ingredients, and then cover and remove from the burner to let the mixture sit.

Add the vitamin E powder, activated charcoal powder, kaolin clay and jojoba oil to the mixture. Stir the mixture until it has blended.

Let the mixture cool completely. Add an essential oil or herbal extract that will specifically help drain a boil. Bloodroot is one option, as is tea tree oil. Two oz. of bloodroot can be added directly to the black salve. Tea tree oil can be stored separately and applied in small amounts after the black salve has been applied to the boil.

Use a clean spoon to place the black salve in the glass jar or jars. Seal the jars and store in a cool place, out of direct sunlight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add distilled water or mineral oil to the salve should it dry out at some point. A dry salve increases the chances of scarring.
  • Be cautious of adding such things as colloidal silver to the black salve, unless you have prior experience using it.
  • Use small amounts of the black salve at the beginning of treatment so as not to dry out skin and cause scarring.
