How to Paint a Media Room
The media room is the specific room inside the home for the theater system. It is now possible to nearly recreate the movie theater experience thanks to big screen televisions, Blu-Ray DVD players, and surround sound entertainment. Consider these painting options and steps when designing the media room.

1
Paint the room dark as opposed to light. A human eye's ability to resolve the details in a picture is based on the relative light levels in the picture versus the overall surrounding environment. You'll notice that movie theaters are always very dark and this is no accident. Darker painted rooms with little to no light present a much better TV picture than a room painted in white with the lights on.

2
Pick a flat finish. Glossy finishes are highly reflective of light. Glossy finishes pose an unwanted contrast on the projector picture or screen. You need to pick a paint with a flat finish for both the walls and ceiling.

Brainstorm some dark shades that would work great for the media room and decide on one. You want a dark color but not a vibrant color like true red, blue, or green. True colors provide a sharp tint which reduces the perceptive contrast of the picture and can also throw off the color balance. Stick to neutral dark colors such as browns and grays or even true black. If you dislike those options, remember that red is better than blue or green for reflection effects, but not as ideal as brown or grey.

Purchase from a top paint manufacturer like Shermin-Williams, Glidden, or Behr and gather any other tools needed to perform the job. If you ever painted an interior before, the same basic principles apply to painting a media room. Use broad and long strokes with a brush or roller to apply the paint smoothly. Paint at least two coats and allow plenty of time for the paint to dry in between coats.
