Instructions

    • 1

Drain the fountain completely before the first frost of the season. Make sure there will be no water in the fountain that could turn to ice and, potentially, crack the ceramic.

    • 2

Remove the pump and any other features that can be stored inside for the winter.

    • 3

Raise the fountain off of the ground by placing two pressure-treated, wood planks underneath each edge in order to avoid any damage that could occur if it froze to the ground surface. Create a firm, solid foundation for the fountain so it cannot be caused to topple if any ice or water accumulates on top.

    • 4

If possible, turn the fountain on its head for better balance and winter protection.

    • 5

Cover the fountain completely. Use burlap, which can absorb any moisture, for the first layer. Cover the burlap with a second layer of thick, dark plastic, such as a tarp, for an extra layer of protection from the elements.

Tips & Warnings

  • If at all possible, store your fountain inside, even if it is just covered with a sheet in the garage or basement.
