Shampoo your hair using a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos remove product buildup from hair and will help fade the color. Shampoo several times; each wash will remove some of the dye.

Rinse your hair with warm water. Warm water will help open the cuticles, which are microscopic, overlapping cells that protect the inner hair shaft from damage. Because the dye can penetrate into the hair shaft, opening the cuticles will allow the release of the dye particles.

Fill a cup or bowl with diet cola and pour it over your hair, making sure to rinse completely. Keep in mind that only diet cola, and not regular cola, should be used. This will also help speed up the results. Rinse hair with warm water until the cola is removed.

Allow your hair to dry in the sun. Although it is important to protect your hair, as well as your skin, from ultraviolet radiation, exposure to sunlight will help fade the color of a vegetable-based hair dye. Do not overexpose hair to ultraviolet rays; this can cause hair to become damaged and brittle.

Repeat Steps 1 through 4 until the hair color is removed. This may take several repeats, especially for darker colors such as red, purple or black.

Tips & Warnings
Try using a soap cap for color removal. Do this by mixing a small amount of bleach powder and 20 volume developer into a few pumps of shampoo and a few pumps of conditioner. Apply the mixture to the ends first, then leave on until the color is lifted to your liking.
