How to Set Up a Linksys Router With Embarq DSL
When people want to set up a network with their home or business, they need a router to do so. Linksys, a product line from Cisco, has some of the more popular routers available. When combined with a DSL connection and an ISP such as Embarq, there is some configuration necessary for the router to properly work with the DSL.

Open up your Web browser and connect to your DSL modem.

Set the modem to work in "Bridged mode." Refer to the modem's owner's manual for specific instructions on how to do this.

Remove the Ethernet port connecting the PC to the modem and connect it to the Linksys router.

Connect another Ethernet cable between the router and the DSL modem. The Linksys router will have a port labeled "Internet" that you can connect the cable to.

Plug the Linksys router into a power outlet. The router should activate. Yo must connect to the router using your Web browser to make sure the connection works. You can typically use the same IP address you used with the DSL modem to connect to the router.
