How to Create Word Emoticons
Emoticons, or "smileys," are arrangements of three or more text characters in electronic documents that represent your mood about what you have written. Most messaging, email, and word processing applications allow for the substitution of graphic emoticons for textual ones. Graphic emoticons are small images that applications use to replace the typed emoticon characters. Three graphic emoticons are pre-installed for you in Word for Windows. You can add more graphic emoticons using the Word for Windows AutoCorrect feature.

Tips & Warnings
If you create a Word emoticon using a font that does not ship by default with Windows, you must embed that font when you save your document so that it can be viewed on other computers where the font is not installed.
