How to Line Bamboo Shades
Bamboo shades are an easy and inexpensive way to dress the windows in your home. However, most bamboo shades are unlined, and do not block much light or provide privacy. With minimal effort, though, you can line your bamboo shades to solve these problems. Most bamboo shades are available as either roll-up shades or roman shades, which fold and unfold much like an accordion. Both types are easy to line, but require different techniques, which are outlined below. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

Lining a Roll-up Bamboo Shade
-
1
Completely unroll the shade and lay it face down on a flat surface. Measure the length and width of the unrolled shade.
-
2
Spread the lining fabric out on a flat surface. Mark the length and width measurements directly onto the fabric. Following the measurements, cut out an over-sized rectangle the same size as the unrolled bamboo shade.

-
3
Lay the cut out piece of fabric face up on top of the shade and smooth out any wrinkles. Line up all of the edges and corners and make any necessary trims to the fabric.
-
4
After preheating the hot glue gun, carefully apply a thin, continuous line of glue along the edges of the bamboo shade. Press the fabric edge into the glue as you go to prevent the glue from drying out too soon.
-
5
Allow the glue to completely dry before rolling up the bamboo shade and mounting it on the window.
Lining a Bamboo Roman Shade
-
6
Follow steps one through three above.
-
7
The roman shade will have several dowels running horizontally from the top of the shade to the bottom. After preheating the hot glue gun, carefully apply a thin but continuous line of glue along the inside of one of the dowels. Press the fabric edge into the glue as you go to prevent the glue from drying out too soon. Repeat this step for each dowel.

8
Allow the glue to completely dry before mounting the bamboo shade on the window.

Tips & Warnings
For optimal light blocking, purchase blackout curtain lining material at your local fabric store. Inexpensive cotton muslin can also be used.
Always use caution when using a hot glue gun, and be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
