- Oxygen bleach solution or grout cleaner

- Square tipped paintbrush
- Old rags/towels
- Grout sealant

Purchase the oil-based grout stain (in the color of your choice), grout cleaner or oxygen bleach solution, grout sealant and a square-tipped, firm bristle paintbrush.

Clean the pre-existing grout with the oxygen bleach solution or the ready-made grout cleaner. Allow time for the solution to soak into the grout before scrubbing with an old toothbrush. After cleaning, let the grout completely dry.

Shake the can of grout stain color to evenly distribute the color pigment. The stain works like wood stain, which means it will penetrate into the grout and permanently change its color; the color will not come off when cleaned.

Paint the grout using the paintbrush, being careful to only paint the grout. If stain gets on the tile, quickly wipe it up with a towel. Most tiles have a strong glaze that allows for spills to be wiped away cleanly.

Allow the grout to dry. Reapply if necessary and allow to dry again.

If the pre-existing grout was laid recently, wait at least 30 days before staining.
It is very difficult to change a dark colored grout to a lighter one. These instructions are predominantly for changing light colored grout to darker shades.
