How to Remount Rubber Stamps
If you've peeled all of your rubber stamps off of the wood blocks in an attempt to save storage space, but are tired of having to affix them to a wood block temporarily each time you want to stamp an image, remount the rubber stamps permanently. Use simple rubber stamp mounting supplies and plain wood blocks to restore the stamps to their original condition. You can also use the technique to save money---instead of buying expensive wood-mounted rubber stamps, buy sheets of themed red rubber stamps to cut and mount yourself.
Things You'll Need
- 2 wood blocks

1
Mount the rubber stamp temporarily onto a wood block by placing a piece of removable adhesive on the block and sticking the stamp to it. Ink the rubber stamp and make an impression on the top of the wood block that you plan to affix to this rubber stamp. The image will allow you to find the rubber stamp quickly and stamp it in the correct direction once you've mounted it to the wood block.

2
Remove the stamp from the temporary wood block. Use an adhesive remover to eliminate any traces of tape or glue left over from its original mounting. Once the stamp is clean, ensure the adhesive remover is gone by wiping the back of the stamp with a damp cloth.

3
Trim excess rubber from the rubber stamp with a craft knife or sharp scissors, if necessary. Make straight cuts and trim closely around the rubber stamp design since a wide rubber border or edges cut at an angle can take on ink and ruin the rubber-stamped image.
-
4
Affix the trimmed rubber stamp to a foam cushion---sold at rubber stamping and craft stores---with a coat of rubber cement or a layer of double-stick tape. Use sharp scissors or a craft knife to cut the shape out so the cushion doesn't stick out beneath the rubber stamp.
-
5
Attach the rubber stamp to the bottom of the wood block with rubber cement or double-stick tape. Ensure the rubber stamp is in the same spot and going in the same direction as the rubber-stamped impression you made on the top of the wood block. Press firmly to secure the wood-mounted rubber stamp.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of using wood blocks, you can affix the rubber stamps to acrylic blocks with the same stamp mounting process. The clear block will help you position the rubber-stamped image correctly when making an impression on paper since you can see the stamp directly through the acrylic block.
When cleaning a rubber stamp or removing old adhesive from the back of the rubber, do not soak the stamp in water or scrub it vigorously since that may lead the rubber to tear or crack.
