How to Use Plagiarism Checker Before You Submit Your Article
None of us want to copy another writer's work but sometimes we might inadvertently use phrasing that is the same as what we read elsewhere. This seems especially common when doing research on a topic. We use wording from the sources we consulted without even realizing it. If we can catch any possible plagiarism before publishing, we should do so.
The free Plagiarism Checker (linked to in the Resources section below) is a quick and easy to use tool to help avoid copying another author's writing.

Write your article, story, poem, etc. as usual. Get all the spell checking and editing done so that the writing is in it's final form and ready to publish.

Use your web browser to navigate to the Plagiarism Checker link in the Resources section below. Copy the text from your in progress work and paste it into the text box on the web site. You can paste the whole thing or just check parts of your writing. Select Google, Yahoo or both as the search engine and click "Compare."

Look over the list of matching phrases that the search returns. You will have to be the final judge of your own work. If the duplicate is a common phrase that might appear in many pieces of writing, you could just ignore it. If you see passages that could be considered plagiarism, click on the numbers under the search engine name to see a list of links to the duplicate passages.
* For this example I used a section of text from one of my own articles so I would be sure to get some matches.

You can click the links to see the actual sites where the duplicates phrases appear. If you decide that your work should be changed, now is the time to do it. Reword your article and retest it before publishing.
