How to Replace Gateway Laptop Hinges

      Turn off your Gateway laptop, unplug it and remove the battery.

      Locate the four screws on the back and bottom of your laptop. The two screws on the back will be directly underneath the hinges, and the two on the bottom are on each side of the battery cover.

      Hold the screen of the laptop while removing the two screws from the back with a Phillips screwdriver. Gently lift the screen and set it to the side.

      Remove the screws on the bottom of the laptop and flip the laptop over. Remove the plastic piece on front of the laptop that has the power button and set it to the side.

      Remove the now exposed hinges and put the new hinges in the slots where the old ones were. Replace the plastic piece over the power button, and hold the screen into place as you put the four screws back into the laptop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hold the laptop shut when replacing the screws after lining up the screen with the base.
