How to Change From a Wired to a Wireless Doorbell
There are several reasons why someone might switch from a wired to a wireless doorbell system. With a wired doorbell, you cannot easily change the location of the chime unit. This means that you might not be able to hear the doorbell in all parts of your house. Additionally, when you want some privacy or do not want to be disturbed, it's easy to turn off a wireless doorbell, while the wired ones are always active. To make the switch, you don't need to do anything with your existing doorbell (except disconnect it if it's still active). Just install your new wireless unit and you are all set. Does this Spark an idea?

Disconnect your existing doorbell. If your existing doorbell is still active, you can disable it by disassembling the button inset outside of the front door and disconnecting the two wires, or by removing the chime unit located inside your house. If you disconnect the wires at the front door, wrap them separately with electrical tape and stuff them into the door frame. You should turn off your electricity before working with the wires on either unit.

Install the new button. Most wireless units use either double-sided tape or a screw to attach the doorbell to your door frame. If you removed your old button, you can cover the hole with the new one. Attach the back plate to the door frame, insert the battery that came with the doorbell unit, and snap it into place.

Install the chime unit. Choose a location in your home that is central so that your doorbell can be heard throughout the house. The chime portion of the unit is usually attached by several screws to keep it in place securely. Install the batteries (often size D) and then adjust the settings to the tone that you like.
