How to Fix Ford Cruise Control Fires

Known switch problems cause fires in many Ford vehicles every year. The switch can be replaced to correct the problem, but a permanent solution is questionable. The design of the switch leaves part of the electrical connection near the brake booster assembly. The connector can corrode due to moisture in the engine bay, short out, and start a fire. The only sure-fire way to stop the fire from happening is to disconnect the switch.

Instructions

1. Open the hood on your Ford vehicle.

2. Locate the power connector for the cruise control module. There is a black plug mated to an orange plug on most Ford vehicles. Some vehicles use two black plugs. These plugs are next to the brake booster on the firewall on the driver's side of the vehicle.

3. Push down on the release tab on the top of the black plug and pull the connector off the orange connector.
