How to Make Wristbands With Yarn
Making wristbands with yarn is an age-old activity for children and adults. Wristbands and bracelets may look alike, but a wristband is tight around the wrist and a bracelet is loose to move around the arm. There are so many different methods you can use to make wristbands with yarn, from simple braiding to complex knitting, that the only true restriction is your imagination. Pick any color, multi-color or color combination yarn to create a wristband that reflects your personality.
Things You'll Need
- Cardboard toilet paper tube
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Colorful yarn, 1/2 inch
- White glue

1
Place the cardboard tube on a flat surface and measure in 3 inches from one end. Slice the tube to create a 3 inch tall mini tube. Slice a straight, vertical line through the mini tube so it can open.
-
2
Slide the mini-tube over your wrist. Examine how the tube fits. To turn the tube into a wristband, you need to cut it so that the cardboard covers the top and sides of your wrist, but not the bottom.

3
Cut a piece of yarn long enough to comfortably loop around your wrist and tie into a bow. Place the cardboard mini tube upside down, so that the cut area faces up. To create a yarn tie that secures the wristband to your wrist, use a heavy amount of white glue to secure the yarn along the inside of the wristband with the yarn ends dangling loose and even. Let dry.

4
Take the wristband and place it on your wrist with the open side facing down. Tie the yarn to check that the wristband fits properly. Adjust size as needed. Pull some yarn from the roll and glue the end to the lower, back, left part of the cardboard wristband. Let dry.

5
When the yarn is secure, start wrapping it around the cardboard. Wrap from top to bottom, bringing the yarn over the top to the front and pull it down over the bottom to the back. Keep the wrapping closely spaced, even and tight, but not so tight that it bends the cardboard. When you cover the entire wristband with yarn, cut the yarn and glue it to the back, right side of the wristband. Let dry.

Tips & Warnings
Though you can use any selection to make wristbands with yarn, it's best to stick with strong products. Fragile and thin yarns tend to break very easily and trying to wrap them around cardboard will become a nightmare. Considering that the wristband will be next to your skin, it's also best to choose yarns that don't cause itching.
