How to Sew a Corner Stuffed Animal Hammock
Do your child's stuffed animals pile up on the bed and tumble over the edges onto the floor? Is your own stuffed animal collection taking over the shelf and dresser top space in your bedroom? A clever way to display your stuffed animal collection without letting it become stuffed animal clutter is with a wall-mounted corner stuffed animal hammock. You could spend an easy $10 to $25 at the store for a stuffed animal hammock--or you could make your own, and have the benefit of choosing a color or pattern that fits into your bedroom decor.
Things You'll Need
- 2 yards 60-inch-wide jersey, knit or fleece fabric
- Matching or contrasting thread
- 4-5 yards of drapery or craft cord
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- 3 cup hooks
Instructions

1
Lay out the fabric in a single thickness on a flat surface and press if necessary.
-
2
Fold the top edge of the fabric down diagonally to meet the side edge and cut to create a triangle. Trim the edges to make them even.
-
-
3
Carefully cut along the folded edge of the fabric to create two triangles. Set one aside for another project. You'll only need one triangle of fabric to create a stuffed animal hammock.
-
4
Clip each corner of the triangle about 1 1/2" in from the corner. With the wrong side of fabric facing you, fold under 1/4" and press, then turn under another 1/4" to make an enclosed hem. Stitch the hem. Repeat for each corner.
-
5
On the long side of the triangle hammock, fold under 1/2" of fabric and press. Fold over another 1/2", enclosing the raw edge. Repeat for the remaining two sides.
-
6
Starting at one corner, slide the cord under the folded inside edge. Leave about 3" of cord at the starting end. Stitch the hem closed, being careful not to catch the cord in the stitching.
-
7
At the each corner, leave about 3" of cord outside the hem. Turn the fabric and continue stitching with the cord inside the hem. At the end of the third side, cut the cord about 3" from the end of the fabric. Knot the two ends of the cord together, then pull the knot into the hem to conceal it.
-
8
Adjust the fabric along the cord so that there is an equal length of cord extending from each corner. Knot the loop of cord at each corner close to the fabric to create hanging loops for your corner hammock.
-
9
Stitch across each corner about one inch in from the end of the fabric to secure the cord loops in place.
-
10
Insert one cup hook into the wall at the corner. Measure out the length of each side from the corner, and insert a cup hook in the wall at the corresponding distance. Hang the corner stuffed animal hammock from the hooks, and fill with stuffed animals.

Try using braided cord or bias tape in a contrasting color instead of drapery cord.
