How to Print Car Magnets

Surely you've heard of refrigerator magnets for the kitchen, but now there are also car magnets for the outside of your automobile. These are commonly used as inexpensive advertisements for a business. Even an individual can promote himself or one of his causes using these magnets. One can be placed on each door. You can create your own customer car magnet using a printing service that offers these products.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a car magnet printing service. If possible choose one that allows you to design your magnet using online software, such as vistaprint.com.

    • 2

Decide on the size for your magnet. Sizes commonly range from the size of a standard 8.5-inch by 11-inch sheet of paper to about 12 by 18 inches.

    • 3

Choose a background color for the magnet. Bright or white backgrounds are best for visibility on your car, especially since it will be in motion at times. If your car magnet printing service offers templates, choose one that is consistent with your business type or theme, for example, a flowery template for a makeup sales representative.

    • 4

Add text on top of the background that contrasts well against your chosen background. Sans serif fonts (no accents on the tips of each letter) are ideal for reading. Keep it short and simple -- just a quick saying ("We Sell CDs") or your company name is sufficient. Include a phone number and website in large, bold lettering (larger than the company name or saying) so that passersby on the street or in their cars can take down your information and contact you later.

    • 5

Add an image or two to your car magnet, but don't crowd the canvas because you can negatively affect a passerby's ability to read and understand the sign. Leave as much white space on your magnet as possible. Make the images small and position them to the left, right or bottom of the magnet.

    • 6

Review your design to assure that it is to your liking before you send your order to the printer. Decide how many magnets you need. One for each side of the car will suffice.

    • 7

Submit your car magnet design to the printer. Expect to pay about $5 to $10 for each custom magnet. Allow up to two weeks for production.
