How to Create a Small Business Website With Member Login Pages

You can take your small business website to the next level by setting it up with a few membership pages that require the user to log in for access. These pages are password protected so that a user name and password are required for access. You can either give free admission to the pages, which allows you to collect email addresses and contact names, or ask for a fee. Some web programmers will charge you hundreds, even thousands of dollars to create membership login pages for your business website, but there are a few third party services that allow you to do the same for a lot less money.

Instructions

    • 1

Establish an account with a membership services site such as Authpro.com or SentryLogin.com. These are third party sites that allow you to integrate a specially designed login page into your website. Expect to pay about $50 to $70 per year for a subscription to the service.

    • 2

Create the pages of your small business website. Include a homepage, contact, about us, products and services, and news and events pages. Add a privacy policy and a terms and conditions page as well. Lastly, create a "welcome" or entry page that will be your landing page when people log into your membership area.

    • 3

Log into your membership services account. Enter your landing page URL address. Identify a logout URL as well (where the member will end up when he clicks "sign out"). There may be a wizard available to help you through this process.

    • 4

Decide how much you want the prospective member to pay in order to start an account, if you require a payment. Set a one-time payment or monthly subscription fee. Add your PayPal (called "Instant Payment Notification" or IPN) or merchant account information so that you can accept payments in exchange for a member login (user name and password). You can also allow the users to register free of charge.

    • 5

Add the password protection code, which will be provided by the membership service, to the headers of each web page on your small business site that you want to restrict to registered users.

    • 6

Design your membership login page. You can add your logo, change the background to be consistent with your company colors and modify text. This is the design that members will see when they register, login, and manage the account.

    • 7

Copy and paste the URL to register and login to site, which will be provided in your account management area. Add this link to the public pages of your small business site. For instance, you could create a graphic that says "Sign Up or Login Here" to be positioned at the top of each page of your site. The user will be taken to the login and registration screen that you designed in the previous step.
