Talk to your children. Decide what goals you are trying to achieve. Let them decide if they want to make the chart themselves, or if they want to browse the many offered on several web sites. If the find one they like on a website, it can usually be printed off for free.

Work with your children to state the behavior goals on the chart. Only write the positive behaviors they should strive for. Keep it simple, only work on a few behaviors at a time. If they are to young to read, draw pictures to remind them of the behaviors.

When making the chart, put spaces or places they can color in each time they show the correct behavior. This way they can see their progress as they work towards their goal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Stick to the positive. Don't take away a reward if they don't show the correct behavior. Just make sure they know it will take them longer to reach the goal.

  • Put the reward chart in a prominent spot where they will see it regularly.
