How to Address Wedding Invites With Children

When children are to be included on a wedding invitation, be sure the end result reflects the tone and feel of the wedding. If the wedding is intended to be of a casual nature, the general invitation rules can be bent or even broken. If the wedding is traditional and formal, following the rules of etiquette when including children is recommended. Above all, stay true to the nature of the wedding. Ensure the invitations are sent to guests a minimum of six weeks prior to the wedding.

Instructions

1. Address the envelope to either "Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Family" or to simply "The Smith Family," if you intend to include children. This is for children under 18 years of age.

2. Identify the children by first name on the inside envelope. For example, the inside invitation can be addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Sally, Tommy and Beth." It is not necessary to include their full names, such as "Ms. Sally Smith."

3. Send separate invitations to guests' children who are over 18 years of age, even if they are still a part of the parents' household. Address the envelope to "Ms. Sally Smith."
