How to Draw a Pool Table

If you own a pool hall or sell pool tables and related equipment, being able to create good quality graphics, icons and logos for advertisements, fliers, brochures or other documents is a handy ability to have, since it will save you the cost of hiring a professional graphics artist. You might think you need great artistic skill to do this, but if you have access to Photoshop, you can quickly draw your own pool table.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop. Select "File" and click "New." In the dialog that now opens make the size of the document whatever you want for your project. Since you will probably be printing it, make the resolution 300 pixels per inch. Set the background to "Transparent" and click "OK."

    • 2

Click on the "New Layer" icon at the bottom of the "Layers" panel. Change the "Foreground" color in the toolbar to a dark green.

    • 3

Select the "Rectangular Marquee" tool and use it to draw out a rectangle for the pool table's green surface. Use the Paint Bucket to fill the selection with green. Now select "Edit," then "Transform" and click "Skew." Use the handles at the corners of the selection to move and distort the surface so that it looks like you are looking at it from an angle, rather than from directly above.

    • 4

Go to the "Layers" panel, right-click on the layer and select "Duplicate." Now hold down the "ALT" key and use the "Scale" function under "Transform" to increase the size of the surface in the duplicate layer slightly.

    • 5

Go back to the original copy and use the "Magic Wand" selection tool to select the surface. Go back to the duplicate layer and click "Delete." Select "Image," then "Adjustments" and click "Hue/Saturation." Change the "Hue" setting so that the surface becomes brown.

    • 6

Create a new layer between the other two. Use the same technique used in steps 2-3 to create inner railings for the pool table, except that you should fill them with a dark brown.

    • 7

Create a new layer under the railings layer. Select the "Elliptical Marquee" tool and use the same technique used in step 2-3 to create pockets for the pool tables, except that you should change the color to black.

    • 8

Create a new layer at the top of the layers. Use the same technique used in steps 2-3 to create sides and legs on separate layers for the pool table, except you should use the "Paint Bucket" eyedropper tool to select the same brown you have in the duplicate layer. Save your work as a high resolution JPEG.
