Choose the right crystal. A crystal cluster is generally the best choice for cleansing an environment. The larger size and larger number of terminations make it better suited to cleanse a large space.

Cleanse your crystal. Since crystals absorb energy, making them the ideal choice for healing, they need to be cleansed and thus purged of the energy they have already absorbed before using them to cleanse an environment, especially one that's rich in negative energy. To do this, simply soak your crystal in a non-metallic bowl of salt water for 24 to 48 hours and then rinse. Change the solution if the water becomes murky.

Charge the crystal by setting it in a sunny windowsill for a day or two. Because crystals absorb and store energy, meditating or focusing an intent on cleansing the environment prior to setting it up will assist in the charging process.
