How to Email a Genealogy Report Using Family Tree Maker

Family Tree Maker software helps you organize your genealogy data. One of the joys of genealogical research is sharing the information you find with your family. The easiest way to share information with both close family members and newly found cousins is through email. You can email genealogy reports in Adobe PDF format and be confident that your relative will be able to read the report no matter what computer system she uses. The most commonly shared genealogy report is called a register report. A register report contains information about one family line, beginning with one person and listing information about all of his descendants.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Publish" button located at the top of the screen. This opens the Family Tree Maker publishing workspace where you create, save, print and share reports. Either open a report you saved previously or create a new report.

    • 2

Click on the "Share" button. The button is located above the editing panel.

    • 3

Choose "Send as PDF" in the drop-down menu. PDF is the best format to choose because Adobe offers free PDF viewers for all current computer systems. Unless your relative specifically requested a different format, send a PDF file.

    • 4

Enter a name and location for the report file.

    • 5

Click on the "Save" button. Your email program opens with a new message that has the genealogy report attached to it.

    • 6

Enter the recipient's email address in the new email.

    • 7

      Send the email.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you've already saved your genealogy report as a PDF file, you can email the report directly from Adobe Reader by opening the file and then selecting File > Attach to Email from the main menu.
