How to Wrap an Aluminum Bat
Wrapping the handle on your aluminum bat is almost a requirement before using it in baseball. You can hit the ball with a bare metal handle, but your hands will vibrate and hurt afterward because of the shock. Wrapping your handle in grip tape or hockey tape is a great way to avoid that sting when you connect with your aluminum bat. Some people have even gotten great results using electric tape instead of actual grip tape. Be sure to get tape that is already adhesive; the mess of trying to glue and wrap the handle is completely outdated.
Things You'll Need
- Grip tape
- Scissors
- Aluminum baseball bat
- Razor blade or knife
- Adhesive remover
- Paper towels
Instructions
-
-
1
Sit in a comfortable seat and place the tip of the bat between your feet, with the handle extending up between your knees.
-
2
Remove the old tape with your blade. If the glue from the old tape is stuck to the bat use the adhesive remover and paper towels to clean the old glue from the bat handle and dry it.
-
-
3
Tape the handle of the bat starting at the knob of the bat and wrapping the tape around the handle, wrapping down to the end of the handle and back until you have a design with padding to your liking. Patterns and designs for tape vary and should be customized to your preference.
-
4
Wrap the tape twice around the bat where it ends and cut it with the scissors. This will help the tape from unraveling.
-
5
Test your bat against your hardest swing and see how the shock is now. Test for control and handling as well. If there is too much or too little tape, repeat the steps until you have it just the way you want it.

Tips & Warnings
If you aren't sure how much tape is enough then start with one layer and add another until it is sufficient.
