How to Donate a Car to Navy Veterans

A great way to lower your tax bill while making a difference to people in need is to donate your used car to a nonprofit organization. These organizations will sell your car and use the proceeds to fund their charitable programs. If you are interested in donating a car to assist Navy veterans, make your car donation through the largest veterans' car donation program, Purple Heart. Purple Heart makes the donation process simple, and takes care of all of the paperwork on your behalf. Just follow the steps below to donate your car to benefit U.S. veterans.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit www.purpleheartcars.org and fill out the Purple Heart car donation form. In the comments section, note that you wish to designate your donation to assist Navy veterans.

    • 2

Set up a time to have your vehicle towed when you are contacted by one of Purple Heart's towing companies.

    • 3

Give the towing company the signed vehicle title and all of the keys for the car when a representative arrives to tow your car. The tow company will give you a receipt stating that it picked up your car for the Purple Heart car donation program.

    • 4

When Purple Heart receives the car, it will send it to auction. Your donation amount will be whatever the car sells for at auction. The funds generated from the sale of your vehicle will be used to help veterans.

    • 5

Purple Heart will mail you a gift receipt that you can use when filing your tax return approximately 15 business days after it receives the car.
