No matter how dark, light or bright, a pink dress is quintessentially feminine. Your choice of shoe can make the outfit sweet or decidedly modern. There’s no right or wrong choice, but these tips will help you style your own version of pretty in pink.

Dark Neutrals

Black is traditionally paired with pink, while navy is coming on strong as an option with similar depth but less harshness. Intense shades of pink, such as fuchsia or magenta, pair particularly well with black. Wear a hot pink sheath dress with sleek black pumps and carry a matching black clutch to make your dress business-dinner appropriate. Both bright and softer shades, such as mauve and baby pink, look fresh with navy. Rock a light pink day dress with ballet flats for shopping or brunch.

Skin-Tone Nudes

Nearly any hue of pink works with nude shoes, which allow your frock to be the star of the show. Choose a pair of strappy stilettos for evening or wedges for day. Nude shoes create the illusion that legs go on for miles, just make sure to match your skin tone as closely as possible -- nude shoes can range from bone to tan to dark caramel. Finish the look with gold-toned jewelry to bring out the warmth in your footwear.

Cool Color Blocking

Inject a fun fashion twist into your pink dress look by experimenting with color blocking. Bright pinks look particularly inviting with an equally bright counterpart -- think electric yellow, turquoise, cobalt or even ruby red. Slip into a pair of teal T-strap sandals the next time you wear a fuchsia sundress, and stack up colorful bracelets to tie the look together. If pastels are your thing, rock an icy-pink A-line frock with mint green or periwinkle shoes and accessories.

Sizzling Metallics

Add sophistication to a pink evening dress with metallic shoes. Gold, silver and gunmetal work well depending on the shade of the dress. Opt for brushed-platinum, pointy-toe pumps or strappy sandals with a demure ballet-slipper pink, or go bold with gold wedges and a flirty hot pink trapeze dress for a night out with the girls. Keep your bag neutral -- think a nude clutch or small shoulder bag -- and finish the look with a chunky gold cuff and matching hoop earrings.
