Instructions

    • 1

Spread the plastic sheeting over a flat surface. This will protect your work area. Wear your plastic gloves to prevent damaging your hands.

    • 2

Cut off the top of the juice jug. Starting from the bottom of the jug, use a ruler to measure 2 to 3 inches or until you have the desired height for your candle holder. Mark this with a pen, and cut the remainder of the juice jug. Discard the top of the juice container.

    • 3

Spray the inside of the yogurt containers and plastic jug with non-stick spray. The non-stick spray allows the cement to come out of the yogurt mold easily when it is placed faced up in the cement.

    • 4

Mix the cement according to the directions on the bag. Normally the cement is mixed by combining 4 parts cement to 1 part water. Mix these ingredients in your gallon size plastic container with the stir stick.

    • 5

Pour the cement into the bottom of the plastic jug. Place the yogurt cups face up in the cement. Use rocks or any other object to weigh the yogurt containers down. The more yogurt containers you use, the more places you will have to place candles in your candle holder.

    • 6

Tap the candle mold with a pen to release any trapped air bubbles.

    • 7

Allow the rapid mix to sit for 10 minutes. Twist the yogurt cups to move them gently to ensure that they do not stick completely to the cement. After 15 minutes has passed, twist the containers gently to remove them from the cement. Once the cement becomes warm and starts to build condensation, remove it from the plastic mold. Only remove it once it is completely set.

    • 8

Use sand paper to smooth the edges and sides of the cement candle holder.

    • 9

Paint the candle holders once they set for at least 24 hours. Only use outdoor paint on these candle holders. They will require several coats of paint.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of using a plastic juice container, you can use any container for this project such as a round storage container or deli container.

  • While the cement is setting, add stones or seashells to decorate the top of your cement candle holders.
