Instructions

    • 1

Use a heavy cardboard box for the shipping of live plants. Pick out a box that is large enough to fit your heritage raspberry bush without crowding or breaking the branches, but is small enough that the bush will be secure during shipping. If the box is too big, the raspberry bush will be tossed around inside and potentially damaged.

    • 2

Soak three to five sheets of newspaper in water until they're wet but not dripping. Lay the newspaper out on the ground.

    • 3

Place your heritage raspberry bush out on top of the newspaper, so that the root ball is on top of the paper and can be easily wrapped. Keep any foliage above the paper; you only need to keep the roots moisturized during live plant shipping. Carefully roll the newspaper around the roots of the raspberry push. Fold the bottom of the newspaper up to close the roots in.

    • 4

Place the newspaper in a plastic bag to contain the moisture around the roots. Make sure the foliage of the raspberry bush stays outside of the bad, as it will rot or suffocate if it's inside.

    • 5

Place the entire raspberry bush in a large plastic grocery bag. Place that grocery bag in another, and then into a third. Loosely wrap the bags around the plant to provide protection for the bush during shipping.

    • 6

Put your wrapped bush into the box and ship. There is no need to label which side should be up or that the box is fragile. Ship the plant overnight for the best success.

Tips & Warnings

  • Heritage raspberries are drought resistant.

  • Ship plants during their dormant phase in the winter to cause the least stress.

  • Keeping roots exposed to air for long periods of time will damage the roots and could kill the plant. Move the heritage raspberry bush from the soil to the wet newspaper as quickly as possible.
