Apply a retinol anti-aging cream or topical tretinoin to your wrinkles. You will need a doctor's prescription in order to obtain tretinoin. Retinol is the main compound of vitamin A, whereas tretinoin is a derivative. Tretinoin is effective in treating photodamaged skin and helps to boost collagen in the face. According to a study published in the August 1993 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine, tretinoin increased collagen I production by 80 percent. Retinol, on the other hand, is an antioxidant that protects against skin-damaging agents such as free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen molecules that cause aging.

Apply a gel, cream or lotion containing AHA (alpha hydroxy acids). AHA are acids derived from fruits and milk. AHA removes dead skin cells from the epidermis (the top layer of skin) by forcing the skin to exfoliate. This stimulates the growth of new skin cells and helps to fade the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Set up an appointment with a dermatologist to have a chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing done. The deepest form of chemical peels, known as phenol peels, use carbolic acid to remove the outer layers of damaged skin. Deep chemical peels can be extremely effective at removing wrinkles and fine lines, but the treatment process can also be quite severe. Swelling and redness are common and the area can be extremely sensitive for weeks. Laser skin resurfacing, on the other hand, uses CO2, Erbium or Fraxel lasers to diminish the appearance of wrinkles.

Consult a plastic surgeon about a brow-lift, a face-lift or botox injections. While these measures may be too extreme for some, depending on how many wrinkles you may have, they might be worth considering.

Prevent the development of future wrinkles by eating a healthy diet rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are most commonly found in fruits and vegetables. Wear an SPF of at least 30 before you go outdoors, as the sun's UV rays can cause considerable damage to the skin. Moisturize your skin regularly, and stop smoking. Smoking damages collagen and elastin fibers.
