How to Draw Skulls for Graphics & Stencils
Skulls are often drawn as props for many different settings. Since the skull is a dominant symbol of death and misery, many horror fans will seek to master drawing such an item to help give their scenes that added touch of dreary dark demeanor. Skulls are often drawn with very harsh details that can appear overwhelming to new artists. Although skull graphics are quite detailed, creating these graphics or even stencils can be quite easy.

1
Draw a circle the size that you would like the skull to be. Don't forget that the skull is made up of two shapes, the head and the jaw. This circle only represents the head so do not size it according to jaw. If you are drawing a skull graphic, move on to step two. If you are drawing a skull stencil, do not worry about the inner details of the skull and simply draw the brow line and jawbone as described.

2
Place a set of crosshairs on the circle so that you will be able to position the facial structure of the skull. The crosshair should contain a single vertical line positioned down the skull where you want the nose to form. The eyes would sit on each side. Slant this line slightly if you wish the skull to be looking one way or another.

3
Place three vertical lines intersecting the first to divide up the face. The highest line will represent the brow line and the top of your eyes. The second line will represent the top of the cheekbones and the bottom of the eyes. The last line well be the midway point for the jaw.

4
Draw the eyes between the two higher crosshairs. Draw them like wide diamonds that can be rounded to your liking. Draw one eye on each side of the vertical line in your crosshair. If you are drawing a stencil, large circular eyes usually work best.
-
5
Draw the nose. A skeleton's nose is an indentation into itself so draw an upside-down heart where the nose should be. Start the top of the heart where the second horizontal line meets the vertical line and stretch it downward for as far as you wish the nose to go. If you are drawing a stencil, cut out the small heart-like shape.
-
6
Draw the jawbone and the teeth. The jawbone should be drawn in a small "L" or boomerang shape. Start by drawing downwards with a slight slant from each side of the circle. Then draw another line coming off of each of these first lines at about a 90-degree angle until the two lines meet. Now round the point where the two lines meet to form a chin. If you are drawing a stencil, don't worry about drawing the teeth.
-
7
Draw the brow line by adding a small bulge to the section of the circle around the eyes. The brow bulge can be as subtle or as big as you'd like. Remember the more choppy it looks, the more skull-like the graphics will appear.
-
8
Erase all guidelines so that only the skull remains. If you're drawing a stencil, cut out the shape and cut out the nose and eye sockets.
