Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the barrel for any cracks, holes or punctures that would interfere with water retention. Seal any problem areas with silicone sealant. Let the silicone dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Attach the fountain head to the water spout on the fountain pump. Extend the fountain head to its maximum length. Place the pump next to the barrel to determine if the fountain head extends up to the rim.

    • 3

Stack bricks in the bottom center of the barrel to make a platform for the fountain pump if the fountain head does not extend to the top rim. A platform also makes it easier to work inside the barrel; the pump is more accessible if it is raised. Stack the bricks side by side as high as you need. However, before you stack them, apply a line of waterproof adhesive along the base of each brick so they will stick together in the barrel. Let the adhesive dry.

    • 4

Wrap the fountain pump in screen mesh and secure it with a rubber band. The screen will help prevent debris from clogging the pump's filter. Attach the fountain pump to another brick with a rubber band before you place it in the barrel. This will keep the pump stationary inside the fountain.

    • 5

Run the electrical cord from the pump over the side of the barrel. Secure it to the side unobtrusively with duct tape. Dig a shallow trench to bury the cord as it runs to the outlet.

    • 6

Fill the barrel with water. Turn on the pump. Make any necessary adjustments to the fountain head spray according to the manufacturer's directions.
