How to Write a Job Description for an Assistant Manager of Food Service

A job description is a good basic overview of the entire job that is being considered. It should include what duties will be performed and what responsibilities will be held, a description of to whom the employee will report and who will report to him, qualifications needed in order to hire into this job and any relevant experience needed for this position. An applicant should be able to look at the job description and know everything needed before applying for this job.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin with the title of the position. In this case, it would be Assistant Manager of Food Service. Add on to whom the employee would be reporting, such as the Food Service Manager or Supervisor of Food Services.

    • 2

List all of the general responsibilities that will be held in this job. Make sure to add all of the unique items that a food service assistant manager may have to take care of throughout the day, such as deciding prep amounts, receiving stock, customer service, cash handling and paperwork.

    • 3

Write down all the qualifications needed for anyone being hired for this position. Prior food service experience is key, as is a position of responsibility in some capacity. Any physical abilities needed, such as lifting 30 pounds or reaching high shelves, should be added. If a background check will be made, mention this as part of the qualifications.

    • 4

Go over your job description before posting it to ensure that you have followed state and Federal hiring laws. Discrimination laws are very clear as to what you can and cannot put in job ads.

    • 5

Be specific when detailing skills needed: mention Point-of-Sale (POS) cash register experience rather than cash handling, vegetable prep rather than food experience. Base your description on what the job actually entails at this point in time.
