How to Create a Playlist in a Digital Signage

Digital signage refers to multiple computer video panels used to communicate information or advertising from a central piece of software. Digital signage software allows for multiple "channels" of information so video panels in different locations display different information. This guide will show you how to use Cignage web-based digital signage software to assemble a play list for multiple kiosks.

Things You'll Need

  • Cignage digital signage software
  • Flash version 10
  • Adobe AIR framework

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Cignage media player at http://www.cignage.com/en/download. Register the product by supplying your user information. Cignage will then email you a product activation link and log in information.

    • 2

Log in to the Cignage administration panel and select the "Channels" tab at the top left of the screen. The initial setup screen shows the number of players installed at remote sites.

    • 3

Select the "Channels" tab and add a channel by clicking on the green "+" icon. Title the channel, attach the channel to your desired players, then press the "Playlist" button.

    • 4

For this example, use the "Demo" folder shown in the Media Browser on the left side of the screen. Pull down the sub folders and select "HD Images," then drag files of your choosing into the assigned items for the play list. You can combine images from the HD Images folder with videos from the "Movies" folder.

    • 5

When you drop the selected files into the play list, a dialogue box appears with fields indicating the start and end dates for the image, the duration the image should remain on screen, and the desired background color (if the image is not full screen). Enter the start and end dates and keep the default at 10-second duration.

    • 6

Continue to build your play list, adding items from the Media Browser until you are satisfied you have enough items to demonstrate the system.

    • 7

Launch the Cignage media player on your target kiosk to view the results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leverage the power of Cignage to administer multiple kiosks from any computer via the Internet. This means you can control an entire facility's digital signage system from your laptop anywhere you have Internet access.

  • Add channels so that different kiosks play completely different play lists.

  • Kiosks must have a high-speed Internet connection. At startup, each media resource is downloaded from the Cignage main server to your local kiosk. The more items added, the longer the download. Videos can be especially time-consuming to download, so plan accordingly.
