How to Clean Tire Beads

Beads connect the tire to the rim. They are normally sealed with a sealant to protect the tire from leakage and water. To clean tire beads, you will need to remove the tire from the rim with a flat tire iron. Then, use tire cleaner to clean the beads of the tires.

• Tire iron
• Wrench

Instructions

Cleaning Tire Beads

1. Remove the wheel from the vehicle. Use a penetrating oil to loosen the lug nuts if necessary.

2. Deflate the tire. Use a tire iron, push the rim locks down, breaking the tire loose from the seal.

3. Insert the tire iron between the bead and the rim and work the tire iron around the rim to remove the tire.

4. Remove the rim locks if your wheels have them before removing the second bead.

5. Use a clean cloth and a tire cleaner and clean the tire beads thoroughly.
