How to Clean Tire Beads

Beads connect the tire to the rim. They are normally sealed with a sealant to protect the tire from leakage and water. To clean tire beads, you will need to remove the tire from the rim with a flat tire iron. Then, use tire cleaner to clean the beads of the tires.

Instructions

  1. Cleaning Tire Beads

    • 1

      Remove the wheel from the vehicle. Use a penetrating oil to loosen the lug nuts if necessary.

    • 2

      Deflate the tire. Use a tire iron, push the rim locks down, breaking the tire loose from the seal.

    • 3

      Insert the tire iron between the bead and the rim and work the tire iron around the rim to remove the tire.

    • 4

      Remove the rim locks if your wheels have them before removing the second bead.

    • 5

      Use a clean cloth and a tire cleaner and clean the tire beads thoroughly.
