Instructions

  1. Creating the Template

    • 1

Place the 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of white multipurpose paper on a flat surface using a landscape orientation.

    • 2

Use the ruler and pencil to draw a 4-by-4-inch square in the center of the piece of multipurpose paper.

    • 3

Draw a 2-by-4-inch rectangle directly to the right of the 4-by-4-inch square. The 4-inch side of the rectangle and the right, vertical 4-inch side of the square should share the same line.

    • 4

Draw a 3 1/2-by-4-inch rectangle directly to the left of the 4-by-4-inch square. The 4-inch side of the rectangle and the left, vertical 4-inch side of the square should share the same line.

    • 5

Draw a 1-by-4-inch rectangle directly on top of the 4-by-4-inch square. The 4-inch side of the rectangle and the top 4-inch side of the square should share the same line.

    • 6

Draw a 1-by-4-inch rectangle directly underneath the 4-by-4-inch square. The 4-inch side of the rectangle and the bottom of the 4-inch side of the square should share the same line. This completes the template.

    • 7

      Cut out the template.

    Making the Envelope

    • 8

Trace the envelope template that you just made on to the 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of double-sided scrapbook paper. Lightly write your markings on the side of the paper that you wish to be on the inside of the envelope. Use the ruler to draw a dotted line around the center 4-by-4-inch square.

    • 9

Fold in both of the 1-by-4-inch rectangles over the top of the 4-by-4-inch square along the dotted lines.

    • 10

Apply a thin coat of white craft glue on top of both of the 1-by-4-inch rectangles.

    • 11

Fold in the 3 1/2-by-4-inch rectangle toward the 4-by-4-inch square. This rectangle will lay on top of the glued 2-by-4-inch rectangles. Press down upon the 3 1/2-by-4-inch square to securely glue it.

    • 12

Fold over the 2-by-4-inch rectangle toward the 4-by-4-inch square to form the top flap of the envelope.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can embellish the envelope with trims such as ribbon, buttons or rickrack.

  • If you wish to insert a photo into the envelope, make sure to allow 1/4 inch of extra space to all dimensions of the envelope.
