How to Print Envelopes on an HP Color Laser Jet 5

The HP Laser Jet 5 is a discontinued printer that was available for sale in the mid-1990s. This printer featured an optional envelope attachment that could be installed on the printer to make printing envelopes quick and easy. While finding this attachment may not be easy considering they are no longer manufactured, you can still print envelopes using the upper tray of the printer and following a few simple guidelines.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull open the door of tray one. Tray one is located on the front of the machine above tray two.

    • 2

Pull out the tray extension behind the tray one door. The extension will snap into place when it is fully extended.

    • 3

Stack up to 10 envelopes together. Make sure that the envelopes are not stuck together and are all facing in the same direction.

    • 4

Place the envelopes on the tray extension with the top of the envelopes flush against the left side of the tray. The front of the envelope must be facing up with the right side of the envelope facing the printer.

    • 5

Slide the paper width guide on the tray extension to the left until it is lightly touching the stack of envelopes. The envelopes should now feed into the printer one at a time when you select print.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not attempt to print on envelopes with self-stick adhesives, coated linings, clasps, snaps or windows. These envelopes could become jammed in the printer and cause damage.
