How to Make a Pipe Out of Ordinary Objects
Making a pipe out of an ordinary object can be fun. Almost anything that is noncombustible and nontoxic can be made into a tobacco experience. A common vegetable, the carrot, is a good place to start; it can add a flavor to your tobacco similar to that of the Shishas used in hookahs. Shishas are tobaccos flavored with such things as peach, pear, or other fruits that are primarily smoked in the Middle East, India, and Africa.

How to Make a Pipe out of Ordinary Objects
-
1
Cut off the thin end of the carrot until it is about 6 inches long, and then cut 2 more inches off the rounded top, leaving 4 inches for the body of the pipe.
-
2
Insert the corkscrew into the middle of the thinner end of the carrot, boring out the center lengthwise. Do this slowly and methodically so as not to split the carrot. Clean out the remnants with a long, thin knife or a screwdriver.

3
About 1 inch from the thicker, top end of the carrot, carve out a 1/2 inch diameter bowl shape with the knife until there is only about 1/16 of an inch of flesh remaining between the carved bowl and the smoke chamber.
-
4
Pierce this flesh gently by poking small holes in the bottom of the bowl using the end of the toothpick so that smoke may be drawn through the passage in the middle of the pipe. Ensure that these holes are small enough not to weaken the integrity of the bowl, but also are large enough to allow for a good draw, or inhalation.
-
5
Trim the pipe as desired using the knife. Tapering it down on the sides works well or carving a small notch where the thumb rests so that it is easier to handle. Carvings can be fun and visually appealing: even fine, intricate shapes can be carved into a carrot.

Tips & Warnings
Don't get frustrated if it doesn't work perfectly on the first try. Sometimes carrots can snap or the bowl will be too deep. If everything is fine except that the hole in the bowl is too large, then use some of the shavings to plug the hole to its desired size. Try a screen from a kitchen faucet. The same technique can be used on different fruits and vegetables; try it with an apple or potato for a different look and flavor.
