How to Remove Wig Tape

Whether you are dressing for Halloween, acting in a play or changing your look, you may have many uses for a wig. Wigs won't be very effective if they won't stay in place, and unfortunately that often means that you will be taping them directly to your head. Don't let the use of tape deter you, however. As sticky as it can be to hold your wig in place, adhesive tape can be painless to remove, as long as you use the right products the right way. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Search the edges of your wig tape to see if there is any area where it is already coming loose from your head. If so, start your work there. If not, start where you began to apply the wig tape.

    • 2

Spray adhesive remover along the seams of the tape. Adhesive remover can be found at most arts and crafts stores and convenience stores. Massage the remover into the tape with your fingertips.

    • 3

Slide your fingers under the loosened area of tape, between the tape and the skin of your head. Push gently to separate the tape from your head.

    • 4

Continue to apply adhesive. Rub and push until the tape is completely removed from your skin.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have patience. The adhesive remover you use will require time to break down the bond between the tape and your head. Only by taking your time can you successfully remove the wig tape without damaging the adhesive or your skin.

  • If you do not have adhesive remover, dampen your fingertips with olive oil and apply in the same way as the adhesive remover.

  • Adhesive remover can be applied directly to either natural hair or the hair of the wig if any tape gets stuck in the wrong place.

  • Never spray adhesive remover near your eyes or mouth, as the chemicals can damage these sensitive areas. Only apply the remover to the hairline and the wig tape. Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching any sensitive areas.
